Reuben Brewer

Sr. Research Engineer, Robotics | SRI International

Reuben Brewer works as a Senior Robotics Research Engineer at SRI International, where he specializes in designing unconventional robotic systems aimed at solving especially difficult problems. His research interests include robots for law enforcement, robotic construction equipment, medical and surgical robots, haptic devices, low-cost robotic arms and grippers, and omnidirectional mobile bases. He completed his Ph.D. in medical robotics at Stanford University, where he developed a 19+DOF robot for inserting IV catheters autonomously. In 2012, Reuben developed and taught the graduate course “CS235: Applied Robot Design for Non-Robot-Designers” at Stanford University, where students with minimal hardware background learned basic-to-advanced robot hardware design, culminating in a final project where they designed and built multi-DOF robot arms to play chess.
